It’s a Marvelous Night for a Moondance

Thursday evening the full moon was rising as I boarded the vaporetto for dinner with the Hendersons. Van Morrison was singing in my head (in case you don’t know the song…I hope this link will work …you may have to copy and paste it in your  browser). Of course in my head he was singing “fabulous” night for a moondance  because I got the words wrong.

It was a lovely walk to the house where the Hendersons have their apartment. I took this picture of Mike waving from the terrace earlier in the day.

With my bum knee I made my way slowly up the two flights to their new home. Although they have lived in Venice for many years the move to this apartment was recent.

Here is Chef Mike in his element

The apartment is gorgeous. It is written into their lease that they cannot paint the ceiling in the living room, who would want to…it took my breath away and this picture does not do it justice.

Here is the nighttime view from the terrace with the full moon peaking through the trees and clouds.

And the table set for dinner

Salad course…Greek salad

Starter…tiny artichokes

And the main course duck with cherry sauce and broccoli

So sorry that there is no picture of the Tiramisu…it was so lovely I just had to taste it immediately. No Mike didn’t make that but he got it from the man who did.

Ah, did I mention the Acqua Alta siren sounded just as we were beginning dinner? But only one chime…110 cm. I might have a little water on my walk home. Not to worry.

Dinner was fabulous. The conversation flowed. Neither Karen nor I drink so the wine only flowed into Mike’s glass. It was possibly the most delicious meal I have ever had. Compliments to the chef.

Maybe it was our combined love of this beautiful city but it was a really special evening for me.

I have since invited them to my place for dinner. My kitchen is crying out for some of Mama Michaela’s home cooking. A bit more rustic than the fare at the Henderson’s but we know it is always the company that counts.

About 10pm we decided that I should probably go to try to miss any high water between Arsenale vaporetto stop and my apartment. It was raining lightly and that was the only water I encountered on my way “home”.

It was indeed a marvelous night.

About mvaden1948

I love to travel to Venice (and probably other parts of Italy and beyond) and my camera leads me where she wants without any consideration as to whatever plans I may have. I enjoy photographing nature, my cat and anything that strikes my fancy. I have a "thing" for interesting doors and architectural details.

The Hendersons all were there, late of Pablo Fanque’s Fair?

Not a Beatles fan? Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band – Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite.

Ah, you have me confused with my sister. She was the ultimate Beatles fan. Nope…do not remember that one. But then Rubber Soul was my favorite…guess why? People actually learned to spell my name.

Besides, back then all that screaming gave me a headache so being the totally incurable romantic that I am, I fell in love with Robert Goulet…singing “If ever I would leave you…”
